Emigrant Trails Bike Trek -- Sept. 9-11, 2011  Three days of cycling through the Amador, El Dorado and Shenandoah wine country of Northern California. Starts at Pardee Rec Area, overnights in Plymouth. All three days include ride options -- the longest is 54 miles. A fund-raiser for Breathe-California of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails. Registration plus $450 in donations.

Amtrak Century -- Sept. 10, 2011 A 100-mile ride from Irvine to San Diego with a return by private Amtrak train. 2011 marks the 37th year the Orange County Wheelmen have sponsored this bike ride. (Registration opens June 19, 2011)

Siskiyou Century -- Sept. 10, 2011  Three bicycle rides -- comprising 37, 64 and 100 miles -- that leave from Yreka. The century boasts 4,600 feet of elevation gain over Forest and Gazelle mountains. Sponsored by the Yreka Rotary Club. ("5 Things You Should Know About the Siskiyou Century Bicycle Tour")

Best Buddies Challenge: Hearst Castle -- Sept. 10, 2011  A bike tour with three options -- 100, 62, or 15 miles -- to support those with intellectual disabilities. The long bike route goes from Carmel to San Simeon; others along Pacific Coast as well.

Bike MS - Waves to Wine -- A two-day bike journey between San Francisco and Healdsburg, California. Dates: Sept. 17-18, 2011.

Cancer Awareness Run and Ride -- Sept. 17, 2011  For ascent-challenged cyclists, the distances of 63 miles, 30 miles and 12 mile have no elevation gain. Sponsored by the Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Unknown Coast Weekend -- Sept. 17-18, 2011   The two-day 100-mile trip visits the coastal towns of Ferndale, Honeydew and Petrolia. Includes bike riding along the Eel River and through the Avenue of the Giants. Sponsored by the Chico Velo Cycling Club.

Tahoe Sierra Century -- Sept. 24, 2011   The bike ride that starts and finishes at the Village at Squaw Valley is known for its scenery and difficult climbing. Routes of 30, 60 and 100 miles are offered. Rest stops, lunches and an after-ride dinner is provided with all entries. Sponsored by the Truckee Tahoe Medical Group, proceeds go to music programs at North Tahoe middle and high schools.

Lighthouse 2011 Ride -- Sept. 24, 2011   The bike ride begins at Cuestas College past Morro Bay to Cambria, where the metric century turns around. Century riders continue past the Piedras Blancas Lighthouse. Sponsored by the San Luis Obispo Bicycle Club. (Note: Register early!)

Rat Beach Bike Tour -- Sept. 24, 2011  Three distances -- 62, 31 and 15.5 miles -- start from the cliffs overlooking Torrance Beach and the Pacific Ocean. Support charities of the South Bay Sunrise Rotary Club.

Napa Ride to Defeat ALS -- Sept. 24, 2011   Four bike rides options -- 10, 25 and Metric and Advanced Metric centuries -- leaving Yountville. Cyclists will ride through the Napa Valley during grape harvest season, followed by a gourmet lunch, free hot showers, live music and wine tasting at the finish. Fund-raising for ALS is optional.

Lake Almanor Fall Century -- Sept. 29, 2012 A new century ride in 2012. Meets at Chester Park. Presented by Chester/Lake Almanor Chamber of Commerce.

Tour for Woodside -- September (No ride in 2010; check back in 2011) Three routes of 24 (moderate), 55 (difficult) and 100 miles (extremely difficult) are offered through the Santa Cruz Mountains around the Woodside community. The century ride climbs two passes and follows the Pacific Coast for a few miles. The bike ride is a fund-raiser for the Woodside High School, a public school for pupils in grades 9-12.
