Oregon Bicycle Ride Calendar

August 2008

Cycle Oregon 2008 - The Weekend -- August 1-3, 2008   Two days of bicycling, 3 route options first day, 2 the next. Bike tour route takes bicyclists along the Nehalem and Columbia rivers in northwestern Oregon. Sponsored by Cycle Oregon. (Previously in June)

Bike Oregon Wine Country (Northern Route) -- August 3, 2008  Eola Hills hosts wine country rides every Sunday in August. Northern route is 45 or 52 miles, tours of seven wineries, plus a salmon barbecue and wine tasting at the finish. Begins/ends at Eola Hills Winery, Rickreal, Oregon.

Blackberry bRamble Century -- August 3, 2008  Cyclists can choose between a full century or metric century bike ride. The route leaves Eugene, climbing slowly out of the Willamette Valley and into the Lorane Valley. Cyclists, depending on their option, can follow the Siuslaw River, Wolf and Poodle creeks. Blackberry pie at the finish. Sponsored by Greater Eugene Area Riders (GEARs).

Lakes Loop Ride -- August 10, 2008  50-mile bike ride that loops around Mt. Bachelor, leaving from Mount Bachelor main parking lot; sponsored by Hutch's Bicycles in Bend.

Covered Bridge Bicycle Tour -- August 10, 2008  Sponsored by Mid-Valley Bicycle Club; up to five covered bridges. Three options of 68 to 101 miles. Begins in Albany. 2008 marks the 30th year anniversary.

Providence Bridge Pedal -- August 12, 2007  A 35-mile bike ride around Portland, featuring bicycling over all 10 bridges. Twenty thousand participated in the 2005 event that benefited the Providence Cancer Center and the Bicycle Transportation Alliance

Bike Oregon Wine Country (Southern Route) -- August 10, 2008 -- Eola Hills hosts wine country rides every Sunday in August. Southern route is 45 or 70 miles, tours of two wineries, ferry ride across the Willamette River plus a salmon barbecue and wine tasting at the finish. Begins/ends at Eola Hills Winery, Rickreal, Oregon.

Oregon Bicycle Ride -- August 10-16, 2008  Week-long supported bicycle tour of southwest Oregon. Visits the the scenic Willamette Valley, beginning in Cottage Grove.

Recumbent Retreat -- August 15-17, 2008   Three days of riding from Fort Stevens (Oregon) State Park; camping and potluck meals

Crater Lake Century -- August 16, 2008  A few good climbs greets cyclists on this ride from the Fort Klamath Museum. Follows the Wood River Valley, climbs to Crater Lake, for a trip around the lake then back to Wood River Valley. Fund-raiser for the museum.

Mt. Hood Hoo Ha -- August 16, 2008  Seventy-five mile loop with 5,550 feet of climbing; major climb starts early in the ride. Portland Wheelmen Touring Club

Alpine Half Century -- August 18, 2007   This 54-mile loop ride routes cyclists from Alpine to Alsea and over the Alsea River Scenic Byway. Very scenic route gives riders a view of the Willamette Valley as they conquer a 4,000-foot elevation gain. Fund-raiser for the Alpine Community Center.

Vine Ride -- August 16, 2008 A wine country tour with 35, 50, 65 and 100-mile routes from George Fox University in Newberg; sponsored by Wheel Help Rides of Beaverton

Tour de Fat -- August 18, 2007  New Belgium Brewing Co.'s entertaining bike show performs at Waterfront Park, north of the Hawthorne St. Bridge in Portland. Performances by bands and circus acts. Benefits Bicycle Transportation Allicance and Portland United Mountain Pedalers.

Ice Cream Classic -- August 18, 2008  A loop around Mt. Batchelor, beginning in Bend; sponsored by FreshAirSports

Yaquina Lighthouse Century --August 19, 2007 Three bicycle tours -- 25, 63 and 100 miles -- leaving from Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area Visitors Center; sponsored by Yaquina Wheels
