Across State Bicycle Tours (O-P) 2008 dates in bold Ohio The Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure (GOBA) celebrates its 20th year in 2008 with a bike tour across northern Ohio. Gathering in Wellington on June 14, the bike tour will average about 50 miles a day, with overnights in Galion, Mount Vernon (2 nights), Coshocton (2 nights), Orrville and a return to Wellington. Roadside attractions include Roscoe Village; Monticello Canal Boat, Amish areas, Historic Woodward Opera House, Lake Shore Railway, Orrville Toy & Hobby Museum, Johnson-Humrick House Museum, Orrville Railroad Heritage Museum, Brownella College, Smuckers and more. Across Ohio Bicycle Adventure (XOBA) takes cyclists on the Underground Railroad route across Ohio, visiting safe houses and museums along the way. The tour includes a lantern-lit search for escaped slaves in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. About 60 miles a day. Details at the website. Dates: July 19 to 26, 2008. Limited to 200 bicycle riders. Oklahoma Oklahoma FreeWheel marks its 30-year anniversary in 2008. It starts somewhere on the Oklahoma - Texas border and guides about 1,000 cyclists to Kansas. Meals not included. Meals are not included. Dates: June 8 to 14, 2008.
Cycle Oregon plans a seven-day bicycle tour covering a maximum 490 miles. No details on 2008 route. Check the website closer to the ride dates. Dates: September 6 to 13, 2008. Oregon Bicycle Ride (OBR) takes bicycle riders on a 500-mile tour through southern Oregon. The tour starts in Cottage Grove with overnights in Reedsport, Bandon, Powers, Riddle, Millpond Campground, then back to Cottage Grove. Dates: August 10 - 16, 2008. Columbia Gorge Explorer is loaded bike touring that covers 55-65 miles a day for four days over the Memorial Day weekend. Starts in Vancouver with overnights in Home Valley, Deschutes, and Viento State Park. Arrangements by Portland Wheelmen. Dates: May 23-25, 2008. Oregon Coast Sustainability bike tour follows Route 101 along the Oregon coast and visits organic farms, community schools and oceanside camps along the way. Common Circle Expeditions. Dates: July 12 - July 19, 2008; Aug. 2 - 9, 2008, Aug. 23 - 31, 2008. Oregon Willamette Valley Permaculture and Green Building bike tour visits several eco-villages in the Willamette Valley and around Portland and Eugene. Common Circle Expeditions. Dates: July 19 - July 26, 2008; Aug. 9-16, 2008, Aug. 31 - Sept. 6, 2008. Cycle the Gorge leaves from Portland and pays a visit to the scenic Columbia River Gorge while skirting Mount Hood in Oregon and Mount Adams in southern Washington. Sponsored by Adventure Cycling Association. Dates: June 14-20, 2008. Pennsylvania Greenway Sojourn 2008 has been cancelled for 2008, but plans to return in 2009. Organized by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy. Dates: June 24-28, 2008. C&O Canal/Great Allegheny Passage is an off-road bicycle ride on historic canal towpaths and old railroad right-of-ways all the way from Washington DC to the outskirts of Pittsburgh. Includes rides through Paw Paw Tunnel on the Potomac River and Big Savage railroad tunnel in the Allegheny Mountains. Offered by the non-profit Adventure Cycling Association. Dates: June 7-14, 2008 and September 20-27, 2008. Yockatomac Trek 2008 follows the C&O Canal and Great Allegheny Passage for a bed & breakfast bike tour from Washington DC to Pittsburgh, PA. The organizers handle the route and logistics of forwarding luggage; the riders must make their own reservations at pre-selected B&Bs along the route. Usual 335 miles by canal towpath and rail-to-trail, and another 25 or so miles on roads to B&Bs. Dates: June 14-22, 2008
