This trike bike looks like it's right out of the Jetsons!
Three Purdue University industrial designers developed this children's tricycle that essentially turns into a bicycle as it is propelled forward. It's such a cool idea that it won the first prize out of 853 entries at the 9th International Bicycle Design Competition in Taiwan. That's worth $15,000.

(Updated April 24) When six-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong announced on Monday that his pro career would end with this year's Tour, many asked: "Who's next?" That's a good question, considering the leading contender to take Armstrong's position at the top of the Tour de France podium has been Tyler Hamilton. Unfortunately, Hamilton was banned from professional cycling for two years ... more »

Lance Armstrong announced that he would retire from professional cycling at the close of the 2005 Tour de France. He made his announcement on Monday at the Tour de Georgia press conference in Augusta, Ga. "This Tour de France will be my last race as a professional cyclist," he said, choking on the words. This brings to an end his 14 years of professional cycling in which he survived cancer, won a record six Tour de France championships, and became a household word around much of the world. more »Saturday, April 16

He's not alone. Neck and back pain is a common ailment for cyclists, according to an excellent article in Roadcycling.com. The authors explain in detail the causes of neck and back pain and give some suggestions on how to treat it. more »

Bellevue is going ahead with a plan to build a multi-use trail for bicyclists and pedestrians on West Lake Sammamish Parkway, instead of marked bike lanes for cyclists and a separate path for pedestrians.
By a vote of 5-0, the City Council directed the staff to find ways to fund the estimated $20 million project. Earlier in the meeting, a bicycling advocate had testified that Bellevue would find it difficult to compete for funds because the project didn't meet generally accepted professional standards concerning bicycle facilities. more »

When my friends and I learned to ride bikes, our parents told us to ride against the traffic. Today, we know that wrong-way cycling is terribly unsafe, don't we? Wrong-way cycling actually makes it harder for motorists to see the bicyclists. And it's motorists seeing bicyclists that we should be most concerned about.
The issue of "wrong-way" cycling comes to the Bellevue (WA) City Council on Monday night when it considers the staff recommended plan to make improvements to West Lake Sammamish Parkway. more »
