Congress finally passed the $286.4 billion Transportation Equity Act on Friday. While most of the money is aimed at huge transportation projects, it also spends several billion for alternative methods of travel -- namely biking and hiking.
One section will fund $370 million for recreational bike and hike trails over the next 5 years, in addition to more than 150 bike projects termed "high priority."   more »

About 1.7 million viewers watched the Tour de France live finale on Sunday, marking the Outdoor Life Network's largest audience ever.

The daily live coverage drew a smaller viewership. An average 607,250 watched OLN's 23 days of live tour coverage, according to the Associated Press.

The peloton's tire tracks were still fresh on the Champs Elysees as Alexandre Vinokourov announced he had taken a spot with the Liberty Seguros team.
The BBC reports that Vinokourov will lead the team (7th in team competition), which floundered in the recent Tour behind Robeto Heras (45 overall) and Joseba Beloki (75th overall).

Lance Armstrong earned his Tour de France stage win on Saturday, beating his nearest rival in the individual time trial by 23 seconds.

I have to feel sorry for Christophe Moreau. His Credit Agricole teammates, and team manager, must have been out to lunch when Oscar Pereiro, right, charged up the road in a 4-man breakaway in Friday's 95-mile stage from Issoire to Le Puy.

How else could you explain their inattention, which allowed the Spanish rider from Phonak to gain 4 minutes and 19 seconds, moving from 13th to 10th place and overtaking Moreau. ...    more »
