That’s why I rejoiced when I discovered recently that the rumble strips that had been milled …

There are many styles of bicycle touring.
At one extreme are independent cycling holidays by those who map their own routes and find camping or lodging as they go. At the other end are cushy catered affairs where sag wagons wait at the bottom of every hill and cyclists find a chocolate on their pillow …

Complete SF Bay crossing for bicycles still years away
A bicycle-pedestrian path on the newly opened east section of the Bay Bridge over San Francisco Bay opened on Tuesday, holding the promise of a cross-bay bike route in the future.
At present, however, it’s kind of a bike path to nowhere as it stops short of Yerba Buena Island in the middle of the channel because of a design snafu.
The bike path opened at noon Tuesday …

Traveling bicyclists heading out on the Northern Tier Bicycle Route from Anacortes or nearing their final destination will find their way blocked on State Route 20 — the North Cascades Highway.
Heavy rain and hailstorms that blasted Rainy Pass over the weekend unleashed mud and rock slides across the scenic highway, forcing its closure by the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Contractors are working to repair two tunnels on the John Wayne Pioneer Trail that have been closed since 2009 when inspectors found falling debris hazards inside of them.

This surely isn’t the first time you’ve heard this, but it certainly bears repeating: Creating long-distance bicycle routes and trails draws travelers on two wheels who spend money.
Twenty-seven Canadian communities will learn that this summer when a new, 370-mile section Ontario’s Waterfront Trail will be opened along the north shore of Lake Erie.
Coming in the …

What better day to start your bicycle travels than a sparkling clear spring day in April.
That’s how it worked out for Wendell Poole III, whom I happened upon while completing a Green River Trail-Interurban Trail loop in Kent on Thursday.
As I headed north and the temperature pushed toward 70 degrees early in the …

An annual rite of spring is the reopening of the North Cascades Highway in April or early May after snow plow crews complete the task of scraping the road to bare pavement.
That not only opens a 40-mile stretch of Highway 20 in northern Washington state to car traffic, but it also marks the reopening of a remarkably scenic link of Adventure Cycling Association’s Northern Tier and Washington State Parks bicycle routes to touring bicyclists.
The Washington State Department of Transportation is shooting for a 1 p.m. Tuesday reopening of the highway, unless this past weekend’s spring snows …
