Colombian wins Stage 4; Leipheimer still leads Tour of Utah

Levi Leipheimer maintained his lead at the Tour of Utah on Saturday in spite of a breakaway that threatened to put one of his rivals into striking distance of the yellow jersey.

Meanwhile, Colombian cyclist Javier Acevedo attacked the breakaway to win Stage 4, an 82-mile circuit race around Salt Lake City.

Acevedo is a member of the Gobernacion De Antioquia-Indeportes Antio, a Colombian cycling team that has two wins at the Tour and held the overall race lead until Friday …

Leipheimer back in driver's seat at Tour of Utah bike race

Defending champion Levi Leipheimer took the yellow jersey at the Tour of Utah on Friday as he scorched the 9-mile individual time trial course at the Miller Motorsports Park.

His time was bested by only one other cyclist, Tejay Van Garderen, a native of Tacoma, Washington, and member of the HTC-HighRoad pro cycling team.

New Zealander wins Stage 2 at Tour of Utah

Press release Aug. 11 — Jack Bauer (NZL) of Endura Racing sprinted to his first win on American soil with a big push in the final 500 meters at Stage Two presented by Adobe at the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah.

In a photo finish, Elia Viviani (ITA) of Liquigas-Cannondale came away with second in today’s (Thursday's) exciting finish and American Jake Keough of United Healthcare Pro Cycling placed third.

The winners rode the 99.2-mile (159.6 km) rolling course around Utah Lake in 3 hours and 33 minutes, averaging 27.8 miles per hour. For the third day of the six-day stage race, Colombian Sergio Henao of Gobernacion Indeportes Antioquia continues to lead the General Classification. …

Tour of Utah Top 10 after prologue

Tour of Utah bike race rolls out Tuesday; how to follow the action

With the Tour de France still fresh in their minds, if not their legs, some well-known American cyclists will be competing at the six-day Tour of Utah bike race this week.

Defending champion Levi Leipheimer (RadioShack) will be at the start for the Prologue in Park City on Tuesday, as will Tom Danielson (Garmin Cervelo), at 9th the highest placed finisher from the US at this year's Tour de France.

Others include Danielson's teammates Dave Zabriskie and Christian Vande Velde, as well as George Hincapie (BMC Racing).

Tour of Utah is scratched

Organizers of the Tour of Utah cancelled the week-long bicycle race this year due to a lack of sponsors.

Sounds like a familiar refrain? The Tour of Georgia is going ahead without a title sponsor but is depending on smaller sponsors and a hoped for $1 million infusion from Georgia taxpayers.

The inaugural Tour of Missouri also is seeking a title sponsor as is the Montreal-Boston Tour. The only big US tour flush with money this year was the Tour of California, which was sponsored by drug-maker Amgen for the second straight year. …
