Wildfires cancel California bike ride

Organizers have cancelled the upcoming 2015 Grizzly Century in the Sierra National Forest east of Merced, CA, because of a series of wildfires there this summer.

The North Fork Sierra Vista Scenic Byway Association announced their decision this week as crews contained the latest flare-up, the 5,000 acre Willow Fire.

2015 Chilly Hilly – Not so chilly on Sunday but still plenty hilly

Hypothermia greets California cyclists on high-elevation century

Emergency personnel treated some 40 cyclists for hypothermia after a fierce rainstorm swept across the course of the Tour de Big Bear in Southern California on Saturday.

The cyclists were riding at between 7,000 and 8,500 feet of elevation to reach Onyx Peak when the storm hit.
