Trail closures on Green River Trail in Kent, East Lake Sammamish Trail

A short piece of the Green River Trail in Kent will be closed for 4 to 5 weeks beginning Monday. Same reason as last year — continued work on the river levee.

Meanwhile, a short portion of the East Lake Sammamish Trail will be closed for 1 or 2 days to allow crews to get …

Controversy delays next paving project on East Lake Sammamish Trail

A dispute over how many mature trees to preserve along a section of the East Lake Sammamish Trail — and other issues — has delayed upgrading a 1.3-mile segment of the rail-trail.

The rail-trail runs between Redmond and Issaquah for 11 miles. Originally opened as a narrow, crushed rock pathway along the old railroad right-of-way …

Bike trails win funding in Washington state budget; closing Foothills Trail gap

Your favorite bike trail might be in line for improvements over the next couple of years after the Washington state legislature agreed to spend $15.6 million on trails in the 2015-2017 capital budget.

The bicycle advocacy group Washington Bikes reports the amount is an “all-time high,” and almost a 50% increase over the current 2013-15 …

East Lake Sammamish Trail fully reopens for Fourth of July weekend

After more than a year, the entire 11-mile-long East Lake Sammamish bicycle trail will be open beginning on Friday.

A 2.6-mile section of the rail-trail that links Redmond with Issaquah along the scenic shores of Lake Sammamish has been closed since April 2014 when a grading, paving and landscaping job started.

Contractors finished enough of …

Burke-Gilman Trail repairs this week; bike trail updates

Summer time is the best time for road and highway repairs, and I guess that’s true for bike trails as well.

Work is currently underway on the Burke-Gilman, Green River, East Lake Sammamish and Snoqualmie Valley bike trails.

For starters, Seattle’s Department of Transportation announced that a contractor would be working on the Burke-Gilman Trail …

Half-mile of Sammamish trail reopens; 2 miles still closed

Don’t plan on riding your bike along the East Lake Sammamish Trail between Redmond and Issaquah anytime soon.

Two miles of the 11-mile rail-trail is still closed to travel to allow contractors to get in and finish the job that has stretched for 13 months.

King County put out a press release on Friday announcing …

Tale of the tape: highlights from 14 bike rides in April

April is “30 days of biking month,” when participants take a bike ride everyday and then take a photo or write a short piece about their ride for social media.

Well, for any number of reasons, I didn’t do that. I applaud all those who did.

I just tallied my rides at BikeJournal.com for the …

East Lake Sammamish Trail reopening set for May

It will probably be May before a closed, 2.6-mile section of the East Lake Sammamish Trail is paved and reopened for bicycle and pedestrian traffic.

Then you better rush out and get in your bike rides on the 11-mile rail-trail that runs between Redmond and Issaquah by mid-summer, because that’s when another 1.2-mile section will be shut down for …

Paving gets underway on East Lake Sammamish Trail; bicycling still 6 months away

Even though it seems like monsoon season in the Pacific Northwest, we’ve had enough dry days for workers to finish some paving on the “north Sammamish segment” of the East Lake Sammamish Trail earlier this week.

King County Parks posted this photo of fresh asphalt on Facebook on Wednesday, but don’t plan to roll down there on your bicycle anytime soon …

Last weekend to ride entire East Lake Sammamish Trail before construction

This weekend will be your last chance for about a year to ride the entire length of the 11-mile-long East Lake Sammamish Trail that links the communities of Redmond, Sammamish and Issaquah.

The 2.5-mile north Sammamish segment will be closed beginning Monday so contractors can begin upgrading the narrow gravel trail into a 12-foot-wide paved …
