Petacchi takes 3rd win at Giro d' Italia

After race organizers closed the mountain pass portion of Monday's race due to snow, the stage became a 95-mile downhill and level run into Lissone.

That spells a contest for sprinters. The Fassa Bortolo team, apparently having overcome its early problems with lead-outs, delivered Alessandro Petacchi to the finish line for his third stage victory.

Sprinters Erik Zabel and Paolo Bettini finished on his wheel, but didn't have the speed to pass.

The overall lead is maintained by Paolo Savoldelli, the Discovery Channel Pro Cycling team leader. Danilo Di Luca (Liquigas-Bianchi) follows by 25 seconds and Gilberto Simoni (Lampre-Caffita) by 1 minute and 48 seconds.
