Dates: Sept. 26-27, 2010. South Carolina Cycle South Carolina -- A 6-day bike tour along the state's back roads, beginning and ending in historic Charleston. About 400 miles. All proceeds go to the UMRC, a non-profit that rebuilds and rehabilitates homes for those in need. Dates: June 13 - 18, 2010 David Sutton Memorial Cross State Tour Members of the Greenville Spinners Bicycle Club are riding from Greenville to Beaufort in 2010 for the 30th anniversary. Dates: May 12 - 16, 2010 FestiVelo de Charleston -- Four days of recreational bicycling based in Charleston. Bike rides on Thursday through Sunday range from 24 to 100 miles. Benefits the Palmetto Cycling Coalition. Dates: December 2-5, 2010. South Dakota Argus Leader's Tour de Kota The bicycle tour celebrates its sixth anniversary in 2010 with a 450-mile ride that touches Iowa and North Dakota. The bike tour begins in Elk Point with overnights in Tea, Salem, Arlington, Clark, Webster and Sisseton. Dates: June 6-11, 2010. Black Hills Loop -- A 234-mile supported bike tour visits attractions in the Black Hills, such as Mount Rushmore. Camping. Loop starts in Rapid City, South Dakota. Offered by non-profit Adventure Cycling Association. Dates: Sept. 11-18, 2010. Mickelson Trail Trek Bicycle Ride -- A three-day, 108-mile supported bike ride through the Black Hills on the Mickelson rail-trail. Elevations from 3,400 to 6,350 feet. Dates: Sept. 17-19, 2010.
Tennessee The Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee (BRAT) begins at Paris Landing State Park with overnights at Natchez Trace State Park, Chickasaw State Park and Reelfoot Lake State Park. Dates: Sept. 13-19, 2009. Sponsored by Tennessee State Parks. Other bike rides: Tour de Nash -- May 16, 2009 Several rides are offered in the 5th year, up to a 67-mile Gran Tour. Also short family rides of 6 to 12 miles of bike paths. Meet at East Bank Greenway on river at Titans Stadium in Nashville. Bicycle tours at Civil War battlefield -- April 3 - Oct. 30, 2010 Rangers lead bike tours at the Stones River National Battlefield near Murfreesboro every Saturday. Limited to 15. More information Texas Tour du Rouge routes cyclists from Houston to New Orleans. The fund-raiser for the American Red Cross is six days of bicycling to cover 512 miles along the Gulf Coast from Houston to New Orleans. . Entry fee is $100; must raise $2,500. Dates: May 2 - 7, 2010. Rise Across Texas Challenge This 800-mile tour from Orange to Presidio starts in the piney woods of eastern Texas, passes through Hill Country and ends on desert highways. A fund-raiser for the Austin's Ride School, which specializes in early childhood and preschool eduction for special needs children. Dates: March 6-20, 2010. Texas Hill Country is a 7-day bike ride around central Texas. It covers 300 miles in a loop around Austin. The trip includes stops along the Guadalupe River and Fredericksburg, home of Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson. This country was the winter training ground for Austin resident Lance Armstrong. Presented by the non-profit Adventure Cycling Association. Dates: April 10-16, 2010. One day tours: Ride for the Roses Weekend is a fund-raiser for the Lance Armstrong Foundation, raising money for cancer research and cancer survivors. Bicycle rides of various lengths, usually 25 to 100 miles, criss-cross Armstrong's Hill Country training grounds surrounding Austin. This is a fund-raiser; bicyclists must pre-register and raise pledges. Dates: October 23-24, 2010. LBJ 100 Bicycle Tour This Hill Country bike ride leaves from the LBJ Ranch, a national historic park between Fredericksburg and Johnson City. Distance options of 10, 31, 45 mile loops as well as a 100 kilometer metric century. In addition, LBJ's daughter Luci Baines Johnson leads a 10-mile historic tour of the ranch with narrations at the landmarks. Hill Country Bicycle Touring Club. Date: March 27, 2010. (See interview) |
