Dates: June 21-22, 2008 South Carolina David Sutton Memorial Cross State Tour Members of the Greenville Spinners Bicycle Club are riding to Savannah, Georgia, in 2008. Dates: May 13-17, 2009. FestiVelo de Charleston -- Four days of recreational bicycling based in Charleston. Bike rides on Thursday through Sunday range from 24 to 100 miles. Benefits the Palmetto Cycling Coalition. Dates: December 2-7, 2009. South Dakota Argus Leader's Tour de Kota The bicycle tour celebrates its fifth anniversary in 2009 with a 425-mile ride beginning in southeastern South Dakota. The bike tour begins Harrisburg, then proceeds to Yankton, Wagner, Gregory, Chamberlain, Pierre and Gettysburg. Dates: June 7 - 12, 2009. Black Hills Loop -- A 234-mile supported bike tour visits attractions in the Black Hills, such as Mount Rushmore. Camping. Loop starts in Rapid City, South Dakota. Offered by non-profit Adventure Cycling Association. Dates: June 7 - 13, 2009
Tennessee The Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee (BRAT) begins at Paris Landing State Park with overnights at Natchez Trace State Park, Chickasaw State Park and Reelfoot Lake State Park. Dates: Sept. 13-19, 2009. Sponsored by Tennessee State Parks. One-day tours: Tour de Nash -- May 17, 2008 Several rides are offered in the 5th year, up to a 67-mile Gran Tour. Also short family rides of 6 to 12 miles of bike paths. Meet at East Bank Greenway on river at Titans Stadium in Nashville. Texas Tour du Rouge is a new bicycle tour for 2008 that routes cyclists from Houston to New Orleans. The fund-raiser for the American Red Cross is six days of bicycling to cover 495 miles. The route goes from Humble to Beaumont to Cameron, La., to Abbeville, La., to Morgan City, La., to Gonzalez, La., to New Orleans. Entry fee is $100; must raise $2,500. Dates: May 3 - 8, 2009. (These dates were rescheduled from fall 2008 after two hurricanes struck the region.) Texas Hill Country is a 7-day bike ride around central Texas. It covers 300 miles in a loop around Austin. The trip includes stops along the Guadalupe River and Fredericksburg, home of Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson. This country was the winter training ground for Austin resident Lance Armstrong. Presented by the non-profit Adventure Cycling Association. Dates: April 4-10, 2009. One day tours: Tour de Nine-Zero A Friday night pasta dinner precedes this one-day tour of some Texas canyonland. Five ride routes of up to 101 miles in the vicinity of Lubbock. Also passes 30 miles of garage sales during the Highway 70 garage sale event. The tour raises awareness for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. Date: May 3, 2008 Ride for the Roses Weekend is a fund-raiser for the Lance Armstrong Foundation, raising money for cancer research and cancer survivors. Bicycle rides of various lengths, usually 25 to 100 miles, criss-cross Armstrong's Hill Country training grounds surrounding Austin. This is a fund-raiser; bicyclists must pre-register and raise pledges. Dates: October 23-25, 2009. LBJ 100 Bicycle Tour This Hill Country bike ride leaves from the LBJ Ranch, a national historic park between Fredericksburg and Johnson City. Distance options of 10, 31, 45 mile loops as well as a 100 kilometer metric century. In addition, LBJ's daughter Luci Baines Johnson leads a 10-mile historic tour of the ranch with narrations at the landmarks. Hill Country Bicycle Touring Club. Date: March 28, 2009. |
