Check "charity bike rides" See also: Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming Rhode Island Ride the Rhode is a MS 150 bike ride through Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts. Starts in Newport, RI, and overnights at Wheaton College in Norton, Mass. Returns to Newport the second day. 25th anniversary in 2012.. Dates: June 16-17, 2012. South Carolina Cycle South Carolina -- A 6-day bike tour along the state's back roads, beginning and ending in historic Charleston. About 400 miles. All proceeds go to the UMRC, a non-profit that rebuilds and rehabilitates homes for those in need. Dates: June 13 - 18, 2010 David Sutton Memorial Cross State Tour Members of the Greenville Spinners Bicycle Club are riding to Savannah with three days of riding in Georgia. All new routes in 2011. Dates: May 4 - 8, 2011 FestiVelo de Charleston -- Four days of recreational bicycling based in Charleston. Bike rides on Thursday through Sunday range from 24 to 100 miles. Benefits the Palmetto Cycling Coalition. Dates: Nov. 7-12, 2012. South Dakota Argus Leader's Tour de Kota The bicycle tour celebrates its 8th anniversary in 2012 by extending its reach into Iowa and Minnesota. Starts and ends in Dell Rapids, with overnights in Beresford, Brandon, Marshall, Minn., Watertown, and De Smet. 464 miles. Cyclists who sign up for Tour de Kota are automatically entered in the TDK 45-miler that precedes the ride in Souix Falls on June 10. Presented by Argus-Leader newspaper. Dates: June 17-22, 2012. Black Hills - Inn-to-Inn -- A 234-mile self-supported bike tour visits attractions in the Black Hills, such as Mount Rushmore. Camping. Loop starts in Rapid City, South Dakota. Although cyclists carry their own gear, packing is light because all lodging and most meals are taken at inns along the route. Offered by non-profit Adventure Cycling Association. Dates: Sept. 1-7, 2012. Mickelson Trail Trek Bicycle Ride -- A three-day, 108-mile supported bike ride through the Black Hills on the Mickelson rail-trail. Elevations from 3,400 to 6,350 feet. Dates: Sept. 14-16, 2012. Tennessee The Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee (BRAT) visits Cumberland Mountain, Standing Stone, Pickett and Harrison Bay state parks in 2012. 7-day, 3-day and 1-day options. Texas Texas Hill Country is a 7-day bike ride around central Texas. It covers 300 miles in a loop around Austin. The trip includes stops along the Guadalupe River and Fredericksburg, home of Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson. This country was the winter training ground for Austin resident Lance Armstrong. Presented by the non-profit Adventure Cycling Association. Dates: April 7-13, 2012. Tour du Rouge routes cyclists from Houston to New Orleans. The fund-raiser for the American Red Cross is six days of bicycling to cover 512 miles along the Gulf Coast from Houston to New Orleans. . Entry fee is $100; must raise $2,500. Dates: May 6-11, 2012. Big Bend Loop This 9-day, fully supported bicycle tour offered by Adventure Cycling Association covers 343 miles of scenic Texas landscapes. Meets up in El Paso and shuttles to Fort Davis where bicycling begins. Dates: Oct. 20 - 28, 2012.
