“See you on the road.”
That's the message left on the Chattanooga Bicycle Club forum Thursday night by David Meek just hours before he was struck and killed by a passing truck on Friday morning.
It shows how much Meek enjoyed bicycling and how he wanted others to share that joy. In addition to being the owner of Privateer Hand-made Performance Bicycles, the 51-year-old was an active member of the bicycle club and leader of the annual Tour de Charohala Challenge. …

We all know that communities can be bicycle friendly, because the League of American Bicyclists tells us so.
Now they've announced 25 businesses for 2009 that are bicycle friendly as well. On the list are breweries (2), hospitals, bike stores, bike manufacturers, law offices and more.
The Biking Bis headquarters neighboring city of Seattle had the most bicycle friendly companies — three, following by San Francisco, Portland and Madison, Wisconsin, with two each …

When I first learned from Robert Hollandsworth that he was cutting short his bicycle tour because of physical and mechanical problems, I probably should have guessed that there was more to it than he initially let on.
Yes, he did suffer mechanical problems during the first weeks of his tour that started in Houston around New Year's Day. And yes, the 600-plus miles of bicycling stressed his body that was accustomed to decades of a sedentary lifestyle.
But what really brought his Cycle for Life Tour to an end was one of the female residents of Langtry, Texas, who offered Hollandsworth a bowl of soup …

Now that the 2009 North American Handmade Bicycle Show is history, the Oregon Bicycle Constructors Association says it will hold its own show for handbuilt bicycles this fall.
The Oregon Handmade Bicycle Show on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 will be the association's second such show (the first was in 2007). Members plan for it to become an annual show in the future.
The non-profit trade group in Oregon promotes hand-built bicycles, and its members had the opportunity to display their wares at the NAHBS that's been held on the West Coast the past couple of years …

All you have to do is upload a picture of a bicycle with lights to Princeton Tec's flickr.com photo contest page. Judges will choose three winners in each of five categories after the contest deadline of April 12 …
