Climbing preview for Stage 11 of Giro d'Italia bike race

After Tuesday's flat stage, the Giro d'Italia peloton bumps along the jagged profile of Stage 11 from Tortoreto to Castelfidardo.

Remember fallen bicyclists: Ride of Silence is Wednesday

Bicyclists in more than 300 cities across the globe will take time on Wednesday evening to remember bicycle riders who have been killed or injured in traffic.

In most locations, the Ride of Silence rolls out at 7 p.m. for a solemn 8- to 10-mile ride at a 12 mph.

[Note: Some rides begin earlier; Seattle Ride for Silence leaves Gas Works Park at 6:30 p.m.]

The silent procession is not only intended to honor those who injured and killed, but also to remind motorists, police, the courts and other public officials that bicyclists have a right to use public roads …

Sky's got no limit at Tour of California

Sky Procycling captured its second sprint finish at the Amgen Tour of California on Tuesday, this time as Greg Henderson powered over the finish line.

The 34-year-old New Zealander usually sets up his teammates for victories, like Monday's sprint win in Sacramento by Ben Swift. But as he approached the finish line in front of the lead group in Modesto, he didn't see any teammates behind him so he kept hammering hard.

It made for a long sprint, but the trailing Thor Hushovd (Garmin-Cervelo) couldn't quite reach his back wheel. JJ Haedo (Saxo Bank) finished second with Hushovd in third …

Sprint rivals contest Stage 10 at Giro d'Italia

It has been a long, dry spell for the sprinters at the Giro d'Italia bike race, what with mountains, hairpin turns near the finish-line and summit finishes.

That ended Tuesday, as the flat run along the Adriatic Coast for Stage 10  proved to be the perfect opportunity for them.

Tour of California celebrates swift finish after delay

A British cycling speedster earned the overall leader's jersey at the Amgen Tour of California on Monday by winning the mass sprint finish in Sacramento.

No, Mark Cavendish (HTC-Columbia) didn't return this year. He's battling for stage wins at the Giro d'Italia this week.

This is another sprinting phenom from the UK, Ben Swift for Team Sky. The victory in Sacramento marked the 23-year-old's fifth win this season.

New time/start location for Tour of California Stage 2

The snowy weather that gives the Sierra Nevada its name is chasing the Amgen Tour of California out of the mountains on Monday for a Stage 2 start at 12:15 p.m. (PT) in Nevada City.

The stage was supposed to start at 10:15 a.m. at North Lake Tahoe – Squaw Valley.

The new route picks up the Stage 2 route and wraps up in Sacramento at about the same time — 3:30 to 4 p.m. — for an abbreviated 61-mile stage …
