Pubic Bikes recall due to fauly pedal

San Francisco-based Public Bikes is recalling 4,100 bicycles after receiving two dozen reports that the pedals crack.

The Wellgo brand pedals mounted on the 18 models of men’s and women’s bicycles are clearly marked.

Public Bikes and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission urge owners to stop riding the bicycles immediately and contact a Public Bikes dealer about replacement pedals.

The bike were sold for $500 to $1,200 from Public Bikes dealers nationwide and online from April 2010 to January 2012.

The bicycles have a metal “badge” at the top of the downtube with a number stamped; recalled numbers are 1-5843, 5845, 12560, 20743 and 20757. The “Apple” model, which doesn’t have a badge, also is included in the recall. The bikes and pedals are made in Taiwan.

All models with Wellgo pedals (the name is embossed on the pedal) are included in the recall.
