That Seattle bike share system that’s due to launch this fall has a new name: Pronto! Cycle Share Presented by Alaska Airlines.

bike_with_P_alaskaIt was formerly known as Puget Sound Bike Share. That entity remains as the official nonprofit owner/operator of the system, but the system itself will go by the new name.

Seattle-based Alaska Airlines is paying $2.5 million over five years to sponsor the bike share system. It’s logo will appear on the first 500 rental bikes in the system, the website and membership materials.

You can sign up for more information at Pronto’s new website — www.prontocycleshare.com/. There’s also information posted Puget Sound Bike Share.

Pronto Cycle Share plans to put 500 bicycles on the streets by this fall (a slight regression from the previous target of late summer). They’ll be available at 50 curbside stations in South Lake Union, Downtown, Capitol Hill and the U-District.

A series of community meetings begins Wednesday to determine where these new curbside stations will be located. See the list of meetings here, or you can vote for locations online.
