The city is closing down the thoroughfare between Port Defiance Park and the Tacoma Dome neighborhood for its second annual Downtown to Defiance Sunday Parkways event.

Downtown to Defiance will run from 8 a.m. to noon, when the streets will reopen to traffic.

The event officially starts at Port Defiance and follows the route along the waterfront to the Foss Waterway Esplanade at South 21st Street Park. However, visitors on foot or wheels are encouraged to enter and leave the route wherever they like.

Live entertainment and food trucks will be on hand at Port Defiance Park throughout the event, with the food trucks arriving by 7 a.m. for anyone looking for breakfast.

Also, low-cost helmet fittings will be offered.

Meanwhile, a short-course duathlon for runners and cyclists will be featured as part of the event. The race begins at Owens Beach with a 2-mile run, a 15.5-mile bike race, and finishes with another 2-mile run.

Act fast if you’re interested, because registration ends today (Thursday).
