I don’t know if they’re popping champagne corks at the Adventure Cycling Association offices in Missoula this morning; probably they’re just topping off their water bottles and heading out for a celebratory bike ride.
They’d be celebrating because the nonprofit achieved its goal of raising $50,000 for the U.S. Bicycle Route System by last night’s deadline.
The “Build It. Bike It. Be a Part of It.” campaign funds will be used to offset Adventure Cycling’s costs of coordinating the efforts to create a nationwide bike route network of more than 50,000 miles.
So far, some 40 states are creating and connecting bicycle routes that criss-cross the nation, linking major cities, landmarks and other frequent bicycling destinations.
Right now, more than a half dozen states have USBRS designated routes. More are in the works.
Read more about their success at “Now, let’s all go for a bike ride.”
