2012 Across State Bicycle Tours (K-L) Kansas Border Raiders is an eight-day, four-state bicycle ride through the Missouri Valley to visit sites involved in the historic Border Wars that pre-date the Civil War. The ride starts and ends in Lawrence, Kansas, with riding in Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri. Dates: (Ride canceled in 2011; organizers say they'll resume when they can.) Sponsored by Hog Back Ridge Bicycle Touring. Biking Across Kansas Cyclists will gather in Sharon Springs and head eastward across northern Kansas and the host towns of Oakley, Hoxie, Logan, Downs, Clyde, and Centralia. The final gathering is in Troy, after the group rides to the state border in Elwood. The ride covers 475 miles in 2012. (Registration opens Jan. 29, 2012.) Dates: June 9-16, 2012. Kentucky GABRAKY (Grand Autumn Bicycle Ride Across Kentucky) is a 225-mile north-south cross-state bike tour from Carrollton on the Ohio River to Dale Hollow Lake on the Tennessee state line. This is a fund-raiser to support the arts and reopen the Grand Theater in Frankfort. Dates: (No ride since 2009)
Louisiana Cycle Zydeco organizers announced the tour would be on hiatus in 2012 to study other options. The annual Cajun-Creole Food and Cycling Festival covers 200 miles in 4 days and visits towns in the Bayou country of Louisiana. Good food and live Cajun and zydeco music nightly.
