Bicycle quote: Never give up!

“We had just realized how easy it was to just fly home and how all we had to do was get on a plane or a bus to get on with the trip, so it was really miserable riding. A lot of times, we were just wrestling [with] whether it was still worth it; whether or not we were still having fun and whether or not it was worth it to achieve our goal.”

— Emily Metzloff, telling a reporter about the difficulties of bicycling through Baja California. Metzloff and a friend, Sarah Monger, bicycled from Honduras to San Diego last fall after Metzloff's volunteer work with the Peace Corps ended.

Her parents, worried about the pair cycling through Mexico, tried to encourage them into other pursuits. However, they chose to make the ride, hauling about 50 pounds apiece in trailers behind their mountain bikes for 3,100 miles.
