Lance Armstrong heading to South Korea bike race

Lance Armstrong, who has spent a lot of time with his Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team in the Solvang training camp recently, reportedly is heading to Asia this fall.

A South Korean newspaper says the seven-time Tour de France winner will head to that country in September to promote a bicycle road race.

Apparently Armstrong …

2007 L'Etape du Tour bike ride video

More than 8,000 Tour de France wannabes are expected to show up in Foix on July 16 to get a taste of what it's going to be like for the peloton to ride the 121 miles to Loudenvielle about a week later.

Here's a 3-minute trailer of a reconnaissance bike ride video by last year's top British finisher Bill Cotty, produced by UK-based Cyclefilm.

Big names at 2007 Tour of California bike race

It's now less than two weeks until the 2007 Amgen Tour of California begins, and I keep seeing names of major league cyclists who plan to compete in the 8-stage bicycle race.

The latest are Michael Rasmussen of Denmark and Freddie Rodriguez of the US. Add them to a list that already includes Italian Ivan Basso; Americans Levi Leipheimer, George Hincapie, Tom Danielson (all Discovery), David Zabriskie, Christian Vande Velde, and Bobby Julich (all CSC); CSC's Juan Jose Haedo (winner of two stages last year); and world champion Paolo Bettini (QuickStep).

Rasmussen of the Rabobank cycling team is the guy wearing the polka-dot King of the Mountain jersey ….

Already off pace for bicycling in 2007, but learning a lesson

At the beginning of the year I made the bold prediction that I would sweep aside 2006's dismal bicycling mileage and double my output to 4,000 miles.

Not much for the 8,000-plus mileage crowd, but good enough for a cyclist who has only hit 4,000 miles (the last time in 2003) a few times since completing a cross-country bike tour in 1984.

Doing the math, I'd have to click off an average 333.33 miles per month to hit the mark. That must be more difficult than it sounds, as I only bicycled 206.5 miles in January. Looking back at the bicycling logs I've saved since 1991 …

Ride the Rockies route announced; other state bike tours updated

When RAGBRAI announced its 2007 bike ride across Iowa, organizers said it would be the flattest one ever. The 2007 Denver Post Ride the Rockies can make no such claim.

The 422-mile bike route, which was unveiled Sunday, involves bicycling over four Colorado mountain passes with a total 24,000 feet of elevation gain.

The bicycle tour — June 17-23 — starts and ends in Frisco, with overnights stops in Steamboat Springs, Craig, Rifle, Glenwood Springs, Aspen, and Leadville. Bicyclists climb Rabbit Ears Pass the first day …
