Tacoma, Washington-native Tejay Van Garderen is heading over to BMC Racing, the team of Tour de France winner Cadel Evans and America's George Hincapie for next season.
Van Garderen had to find a new home after his HTC-Highroad cycling team announced it would disband at the end of the year because it couldn't find a sponsor.
In making the announcement, …

Starting in October it will be possible to roll your bicycle onto a Washington State Ferry for free.
The ferry commission voted this month to remove add-on charges for bicycles for passengers who use monthly passes, multi-ride cards, or an ORCA ePurse.
In the San Juan Islands, only customers paying with a multi-ride card may travel without paying the bicycle surcharge.
Bicyclists will still have to pay …

What's the newest definition of a slow news day in Oklahoma City?
Sending a reporter out to do a story on a bicycle that's been abandoned for a year. Channel 4 did just that on Monday.
As a bicycle nut, I'll admit to noticing locked up bicycles that have been sitting around my neighborhood for a few days. I didn't think the general public would notice, though, or care.
Usually the bikes sit around near a bus stop for a few weeks then disappear….

It's not everyday that I have a rolling conversation with a guy riding a bike with one wheel, also known as a unicycle. That' just one reason why I'll remember my 56-mile bike ride from Saturday for a long time.
Memories from most of my bicycle rides dissolve away in a matter of days. Same route. Same weather. Same traffic. Rinse. Repeat.
But on Saturday, after finding that my planned route was very clogged with bicyclists enjoying the super weather here in the Pacific Northwest, I hung a right turn up the bicycle ramp toward Factoria.
Goodbye to the cycling hordes cyclists hammering around Lake Washington. With no clear destination…

The 11-second margin held by Levi Leipheimer since Wednesday was all he needed to win the title at the USA Pro Cycling Challenge that ended in Denver on Sunday.
It was the 37-year-old Team RadioShack cyclist's third tour championship this year, after victories at the Tour de Suisse and the Tour of Utah.
He shared the podium with runner-up Christian Vande Velde of Garmin Cervelo and Tejay Van Garderen, 23, of HTC-Highroad. Add in Tom Danielson (Garmin) in 4th and George Hincapie (BMC Racing) in 5th, and you have Americans owning the top 5 spots …

American Tyler Farrar started Stage 7 of the Vuelta a Espana on Saturday, in spite of a falling in a serious crash within sight of Friday's finish line.
The Wenatchee, Washington, native only lasted a few miles, however, before abandoning the race.
Farrar, 27, crashed on Friday when he collided with another cyclist sprinting for the finish line Talavera de la Reina. After picking himself off the pavement and crossing the finish line, members of the Garmin-Cervelo staff …
American sprinter Tyler Farrar crashed in the final kilometer of the sprint on Friday at the Vuelta a Espana.
The setback must be disappointing to the world-class sprinter raised in Wenatchee, Washington, as it's one of the few chances for a sprint victory at this year's bike race.
Marcel Kittel (Ger) Skil – Shimano won the stage ….

A Colorado-based mountain biking videographer and his freestyle biking friend rolled out our way recently to document some of our amazing places to ride. They found more than they expected.
One of the locations featured is the Duthie Hill Park, which opened last year up in the Issaquah Highlands.
The skills park is a great example of a government agency (King County Parks) working with local enthusiasts (Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance) …

There are several ways to win a stage race: One is to whittle away at the time gap to the leader until you're in first place. The other is to simply earn it directly by winning stage after stage.
That second way appears to be Levi Leipheimer's strategy as he won his second stage of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge in Colorado on Thursday and took back the overall lead from his young rival Tejay Van Garderen.
Leipheimer won Stage 1 in a memorable uphill attack at Crested Butte after a RadioShack teammate paced him to the front. Stage 3 was a mano a mano contest — an uphill, 10-mile individual time trial …
