A Maryland-based company is recalling 9,700 bicycle brake cables after learning they can slip out of the levers when used with Campagnolo-style brake systems.

W.L. Gore & Associates of Elkton says anyone with the Ride-On brand brake cables attached to Campagnolo brake systems should stop riding their bikes immediately and contact a dealer for free replacement.

The company has received one report of a cable detaching. No injury was reported. See the US Consumer Product Safety Commission for details.

The GORE Ride On Low Friction System brake cables and GORE Ride On Professional System brakes cables are involved in the recall. The recall only applies when the cables are used with Campy brake levers.

The cable heads have “C”, “CC”, or “RO” printed on them. They were sold for $40 to $65 at various specialty and online retailers from 2008 through January 2012.

Check the firm’s brake cable website or call GORE at (888) 914-4673 for more information.
