Ekimov can't help Armstrong win his last Tour de France

If Lance Armstrong is going to win a record-enhancing seventh Tour de France this year, he'll have to do it without Discovery Channel Pro Cycling teammate Viatcheslav Ekimov — a competitor and compatriot for many years.

The Russian bicycle racer fell during a training ride with Armstrong over the weekend. He broke his collarbone and seriously injured his spine; doctors told him he wouldn't be well enough to ride in time for the Tour de France in July. …

34 bicycle riders arrested in New York critical mass

(Updated May 4) How much longer will these mass arrests during critical mass in New York City go on? Is there so little crime in the Big Apple that the city can deploy a cadre of police to stop some people from riding their bikes and inconveniencing some motorists?
New York's finest swooped in and arrested up to 34 bicycle riders during last Friday's critical mass ride, including a woman who had been walking her bike on the sidewalk.

Bicycle Quote: Eating on South Carolina bike tour

“Everyone eats their own thing. Some people stop along the way at little diners and eat fried chicken and peach cobbler. That would have me puking the whole way home. Everyone is different.”

Cross-country bicycle rider dies after “trip of a lifetime”

The day after completing his 2,400-mile “trip of a lifetime,” bicyclist Broc Bebout died on the way home in a van.

The Indiana cyclist and about 20 friends completed their five-week southern tier journey from Carlsbad, California, to Brunswick, Georgia, on Wednesday last week.

His wife told the Star Press newspaper that her husband had a great time. “It was the trip of a lifetime. We all have a list of things we like to say we did. That was right up there at the top.”

The 57-year-old cyclist had been a heart patient …

A new spin for adidas' Mavic bicycle wheel brand

Mavic bicycle wheels are getting a new owner. Germany-based adidas-Salomon AG is selling its Salomon business segment (including Mavic) to Finland's Amer Sports.

Mavic has been around for a long time. It traces its roots back to 1889 with a nickel-plating operation in Lyon, France, and soon thereafter to a company that made parts for velocipedes — soon to be known as bicycles.

Tricycle that SHIFTs into a bicycle

This trike bike looks like it's right out of the Jetsons!
Three Purdue University industrial designers developed this children's tricycle that essentially turns into a bicycle as it is propelled forward. It's such a cool idea that it won the first prize out of 853 entries at the 9th International Bicycle Design Competition in Taiwan. That's worth $15,000.
I'd have to see …

MS Bike Tour; cycling for a cause

What's the largest single event for bicycle touring each year? I'd say it would have to be the MS Bike Tour.

The fund-raiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is actually more than one event; it comprises more than 100 rides in 48 states this year. Last year, the MS Society estimated about 100,000 cyclists pedaled in the rides….

Cyclist, 82, nearly circles globe — 10 miles at a time

Those cycling miles can really add up if you keep at it. Consider Dudley Boycott. He rides just 10 to 12 miles a day when the weather is nice, but he's logged about 25,000 miles in the past 13 years.

Now 82, the Maryland resident tells the Dundalk Eagle that he started riding on doctor's orders. Boycott had diabetes and the …
