Cadel Evans wins Tour de Romandie bike race

Here's a big surprise from the Tour de Romandie that concluded Sunday in Switzerland.

With everyone, including me, saying the final 12.7-mile individual time trial would be a duel between leader Alberto Contrador and 2nd place Alejandro Valverde, it's Australian Cadel Evans who smokes both of them.

Evans, a former mountain biker on the Davitamon-Lotto team, beat the field by 22 seconds — good enough to elevate himself from third on Saturday to first overall as the last cyclists crossed the finish line in Lausanne on Sunday.

Evans' victory in the six-day tour gives confidence to Davitamon that it has a capable race leader for the Tour de France in July.
