Final upgrades to East Lake Sammamish Trail begin June 1; segments closed through 2023

The widening and asphalt-paving of the two remaining crushed rock segments on the East Lake Sammamish Trail begins June 1. The work means use of the 11-mile bicycle trail as a through-route between Redmond and Issaquah will be interrupted through late 2023.

The section — roughly between SE 33rd St. and SE 43rd Way in Sammamish — is the penultimate section of the 11-mile trail between Redmond and Issaquah to be upgraded from crushed gravel to pavement.

The extensive work during the year-long closure will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the new Trail Plaza at SE 33rd St. ….

A short piece of the Green River Trail in Kent will be closed for 4 to 5 weeks beginning Monday. Same reason as last year — continued work on the river levee.

Controversy delays next paving project on East Lake Sammamish Trail

A dispute over how many mature trees to preserve along a section of the East Lake Sammamish Trail — and other issues — has delayed upgrading a 1.3-mile segment of the rail-trail.

The rail-trail runs between Redmond and Issaquah for 11 miles. Originally opened as a narrow, crushed rock pathway along the old railroad right-of-way …

Your favorite bike trail might be in line for improvements over the next couple of years after the Washington state legislature agreed to spend $15.6 million on trails in the 2015-2017 capital budget.

The bicycle advocacy group Washington Bikes reports the amount is an “all-time high,” and almost a 50% increase over the current 2013-15 …

Don’t plan on riding your bike along the East Lake Sammamish Trail between Redmond and Issaquah anytime soon.

Tale of the tape: highlights from 14 bike rides in April

April is “30 days of biking month,” when participants take a bike ride everyday and then take a photo or write a short piece about their ride for social media.

Well, for any number of reasons, I didn’t do that. I applaud all those who did.

I just tallied my rides at BikeJournal.com for the …

East Lake Sammamish Trail reopening set for May

It will probably be May before a closed, 2.6-mile section of the East Lake Sammamish Trail is paved and reopened for bicycle and pedestrian traffic.

Then you better rush out and get in your bike rides on the 11-mile rail-trail that runs between Redmond and Issaquah by mid-summer, because that’s when another 1.2-mile section will be shut down for …
